You could benefit from a one on one consult if:

  • You're pregnant and want to walk into the newborn stage already knowing what you're doing.

  • Your baby loves being held but hates being worn in a carrier.

  • You're a partner who wants to feel just as confident carrying baby as anyone else in the house.

  • Your baby has a medical concern and you want to be certain you're wearing them safely.

  • You have a mobility or limb difference and want to try different carriers to find the right one for you.

  • You loved babywearing your newborn and want to find a carrier built for bigger babies and mobile toddlers.

  • You've babyworn before and you're ready to go deeper, learn something like back carrying, and invest in a carrier built for daily use.

Why Figuring out Babywearing Feels Harder Than It Should

In cultures where babywearing never went away, kids grow up watching it happen. By the time they become parents themselves, they've seen it done a hundred times before they ever try it. They're already halfway there.

Most of us don't get that. We wait until baby's here, watch a few videos online, and when it doesn't click right away, we assume the carrier is the problem.

Or we pick a carrier because it was the one all over our feed, without ever knowing if it fits our body or our baby. The most popular carrier on TikTok isn't necessarily the best carrier for you. It's just the one with the best marketing.

None of that is a personal failure. It's just what happens when the village that used to teach this isn't around anymore.

A Better Way to Learn

Most people pick up a new skill faster when someone's right there with them, not when they're pausing and rewinding a video repeatedly. You could spend ten hours scrolling through carrier tutorials and still not be sure you're doing it right, or you could spend one hour getting IRL help and leave feeling like you know what you're doing.

I'll bring a curated collection of carriers based on your specific needs for you to try out. Feel the fabric, pull the straps, see how the adjustments feel. Then try it out with your actual child. Make a decision about what carrier to get based on your own experience, not whichever Instagram ad looks the best.

What Happens In a Session

  • We start by talking through your goals and whatever's been frustrating so far

  • I demo a few carrier options I think fit your needs

  • You pick the one you want to learn first

  • I teach you step by step using a very tolerant practice doll, so we don't use up baby's patience before we find the right carrier

  • Once you're ready, we try it with your baby! I help troubleshoot anything that comes up in real time

  • Before I leave, you'll have a real feel for the carrier and the confidence to keep going on your own

  • After the consult, I send over links and resources so you have something to reference once I'm gone

I'm Mollie.

I'm a certified babywearing educator and mom of 2. I started Carried Close ATX because I went looking for exactly this kind of help myself, and couldn't find it. I had a carrier, a fussy baby, and a dozen open tabs of conflicting advice. What I needed was someone to sit down with me, in my own home, and show me. So that's what I built. Babywearing used to be something the people around you taught you, hands on, in person. I want to be that person for Austin families now.

FAQs

Q: Do I need to already have a carrier? A: Nope. I will bring a selection of carriers from my library for you to try based on the information your provide when you book your appointment. If there's a certain type or brand of carrier you want to try, please let me know! I don't have every carrier ever made in my library but I will do my best to bring the one you request.

Q: I'm pregnant. Can I practice using a carrier with a big belly? A: Yes! Newborns are tiny. You'll carry your newborn high on your chest anyway, so the carrier waist band will be above your belly. If you have any concerns you can always check with your doctor first. We can also practice without tightening the carrier to keep it loose and comfy.

Q: My baby seems to hate being in a carrier. Can you still help? A: Yes. This is a common reasons people book a session. We'll look at the carrier you're using to make sure baby is comfy and chat about a few things that could be going on.

Q: Do I need to clean my house before you come? A: Please don't! I have been in the thick of parenting and I know what life looks like right now. However you are when I arrive is exactly right.

Q: What if my baby is fussy or I need to care for older kids? A: It happens. We can't predict what a baby's mood will be in the future. You can always, always pause the session to take care of your baby. I have kids too, I know how it goes. We can keep chatting while you change a diaper, feed the baby, or attend to older kids. We're parents. We make it work! We will practice using the carriers with a weighted demo doll. Don't worry about trying to get a fussy baby into a carrier you've never used before. We'll get baby settled and then you practice with a clear head and a doll.

Q: What if I had a C-section or have Pelvic Floor concerns? A: No problem. There are tons of carriers on the market. I can show you several options that won't put pressure on your abdomen and you can try them out.

Q: What if I need to reschedule? A: I understand things come up. You can reschedule through a link in your confirmation email or by emailing me at carriedcloseatx@gmail.com.

Q: What if I have questions after our session? A: I'm always available for quick questions through email (carriedcloseatx@gmail.com). If you are wanting to try more carriers on or go over carries in depth you can always book another session with a return client discount.
